Today is Thursday and that means that I only have one more evening until Mason comes home! We can't wait to see him. And I am really looking forward to hearing about all the things learned and all the activities he did this week.
In some ways my week wasn't at all what I expected. I guess because I was less one child I almost expected to get a little board. Well, maybe not board, but for some crazy reason I thought I might have a little extra free time. I was hoping to get caught up on one of my scrapbooks - my travel album. Not only did I not get caught up, but I didn't even TOUCH the crazy book. There were of course the unexpected errands - taking my car to Dallas and then having to return to pick it up the next day, etc. And on Wednesday Connor had a friend named Sidney over to play. Normally when the kids have a friend over they are completely entertained for hours (or so it seems). So, I knew when she came over I would take advantage of the afternoon and get a lot of things done around the house (so later that evening I could scrapbook). Of all things, our guest really wanted to play a lot of games. Games are great. But it really helps when your children are familiar with the rules of the games. And I don't know if this is your experience or not, but for some reason with younger children everyone seems to have "their" way to play. So, they need an adult to "referee". Yes, I refereed. To EVERY board game in my closet. (Can I just insert here that the next time we have friends over I will make sure Mason will be home. This would have been just up his ally! :) I usually love playing games with the kids. It's just that on this particular day I had another agenda. Can anyone relate?...
To top it all of (I hope some of you enjoy this...my hubs sure did)...I was scheduled to take a meal to someone in our church this evening. I don't mind taking meals. It is a ministry of our church that I volunteer in. I know that when I've had children - especially my last baby because he spent some time in NICU - people bringing meals was a HUGE blessing. We had so many who brought us meals (even before he was born when I was on bed rest). So, I really want to help others when they too have this need. That being said...I remembered earlier today that tonight was my night. I was out of the house most of the day because the house cleaner was coming (YEAH!) and we had quite a few errands as we are trying to get ready for our upcoming trip. So, around 2:30 I was really trying to think about what I should fix. I tried calling the family that the meal was going to. I wanted to see what time she would like it delivered and I thought I could also see what meals she already had earlier in the week so I could make sure I didn't repeat anything. She didn't answer. So I left a message. Once I got to the grocery story I still hadn't heard from her so I just made the decision to do a taco salad. Bought all the necessary ingredients including chips and salsa to go along. Came home and began preparing. Now, we all know that preparing a salad isn't hard - its just that sometimes it can be a little time consuming. It is VERY difficult to cut up all the veggies when you have an infant that just wants to be held. So, I'm sure it probably took me almost triple the time it normally would. And to make matters worse, I got so frustrated trying to figure out another ingredient. You see, I was putting all of the "toppings" in one of those Tupperware dishes that is sectioned. I had sour cream in one section, shredded cheese, sliced olives, hot sauce, beans, guacamole, and I had another section to fill and nothing to put in it. So, I was raiding the fridge trying to come up with JUST ONE MORE item. I was so close to having everything finished. I finally gave up and asked Michael to come help me figure something out. About that time my cell phone rang. It was the sweet lady to whom the meal was being prepared for. She apologized that she wasn't able to call me earlier but she had been out all day and just now checked her messages. She wasn't aware that a meal was supposed to come tonight and had other plans. She asked me not to bring a meal tonight and wanted to know if I could bring something on another day. Absolutely. I would love to....
(Yes, this is a true story)
So, I now have enough taco salad (still missing one ingredient to complete all sections) to feed my house for probably .......a week. Especially considering I am the only one who likes taco salad. So, I just made tacos for everyone else instead. :)
If nothing else, I hope this post has brought a smile to your face.
Moving on, would you please take a moment to read the post from Wednesday on the blog "Bring the Rain". Angie Smith gives specific prayer requests for her sis-in-law Nicol Sponberg (formerly of the christian group Selah - who recently lost her 2 month old son). This family needs our intercession. Angie goes on to do a quick bible study I think you would enjoy too. Thanks. Hope you're having a great week.
